MISSIONS
Our church's vision statement includes the commitment to "Reach out to those in need of a Savior" and "Welcome the stranger". The Witness Committee in 2007, through its three responsibilities, mission, outreach and stewardship, and despite a deficit budget, was able to carry out many projects to meet that commitment.
Throughout the world in Asia, South America and Africa, and also through the Presbyterian Outreach Foundation, Presbyterian Renewal and Mission Aviation Fellowship, our support reached many in need of a Savior.
Throughout Florida we reached many university men and women through Intervarsity Fellowship and Campus Crusades for Christ. Locally we supported through funds, or volunteer support, Salvation Army, Center Hill Presbyterian Church, Christian Social Services, Crop Walk, Duvall Home, Gideon's, Thornwell Home, Habitat for Humanity, Carver Heights, the Central Florida Presbytery 2 Cents Per Meal. Our very successful ramp building project for handicapped citizens was continued.
Through our bus ministry, as a result of congregational support of the 2006 and 2007 Mission Conferences, we are beginning to reach out to many who might not be able to come to church services on their own. Currently we are serving Lake Port Square and Hawthorne and will be expanding to other areas in 2008. In addition to final funding of our church bus, the 2007 Mission Conference provided funding for the special need of the Namumu Orphanage in Zambia.
Church members made a number of mission trips to help victims of the Katrina Hurricane in Louisiana and Mississippi, and elsewhere in Jamaica and the United States. Special recognition should to given to Rick Miller and Bill Welch who literally spent months carrying out this great mission.
